Day One of Financial Fast

October 28th, 2012 at 12:05 am

Well...today was a failure. I had to buy flea medication for the dog. She was covered with fleas and it really couldn't wait until next week. But that was all. I didn't eat out at all today. Should be good for the rest of the week.

Well, that's not a complete failure! Your spending could have been out of control, but a need is a need. Smile

Life happens...you didn't go crazy spending, don't best yourself up.

Just as diet fasts don't usually work because hunger becomes overpowering, a financial fast is probably going to fail for the same reason; there are just too many necessities of life that pop up, and you have no way of knowing when.

Would it be more realistic to self-impose a daily spending limit that would still incenticize you to avoid unnecessary spending but also serve to motivate you not to go crazy?

What would that daily number be if you too what you think is a reasonable and doable monthly expense goal and divided it by 30?

Yes, now let me help you begin a list of 100 things on which you did not spend money.

    1. New socks
    2. Pumpkin spice scented candle
    3. Rear view mirror decoration for the car
    4. Throw rug for the front door
    5. Shiny new pie pans
    6. Increased cable service
    7. Lunch at BK
    8. A new collar for that pup with fleas
    9. Pack of pencils
    10.Spirit shirt from kid's school
11.Special cleaner for your computer screen
    12.Decorative phone case
    13.Halloween decor
    14.
    15.
    ~on & on.
The list of little things you might have spent on could be huge. If you were tempted to buy anything and did not, then you met the enemy and came away victorious. So tell us what flitted across your mind that you could have bought, but you did not. The achievement is the important thing, not the fact that you noticed today that your dog had fleas. Own what went right! Come'on, you know this!

I am here to tell you you will end up spending five times more money if you don't keep up with the flea prevention! Skin rashs, skin infections etc... Those are way more expensive and time consuming.
And don't buy the cheapest flea meds out there - they don't work. Advantage, Comfortis, Frontline all ok, be sure you use it every month. Smile
