Gas Fill Up

September 25th, 2012 at 08:56 pm

It was a little more than usual for a Tuesday. I always fill up on Tuesday and Friday. Friday fill up is usually around $45 and Tuesday is usually around $28. Today it was $37. It is due to the fact that I had to make three trips to Morganton this weekend. It is roughly 10 miles one way. I usually don't do any driving on the weekend so of course I used more gas than usual. I had $58 in the gas budget so I was still under. I transferred the extra $21 to my savings account.

I suggest checking 'Gas Buddy' site on-line for the best priced gas in your area. Some outlets have an unadvertised discount price certain days each week. Our nearby discount, pump it yourself gas stn. reduces price 12 cents per gallon ea. Sunday & Tues. for example. It doesn't sound like much but week by week, over a year it adds up. Ask the attendant to check your tire air pressure since incorrect inflation reduces mpg. Excessive idling and driving 10 mph over the speed have proven to reduce mileage un necessarily.

This summer we've been mindful of how much driving was necessary, planning errands to coincide with other trips. I'm now more aware of how easy it is to plan routes. Tomorrow I will drive our visitor to the airport and will stop at the discount mall on the way back as I've been building a list of products best bought at those Bulk/Discount outlets since the start of summer.

It is always nice to save a little, even if you had to spend more.
