What would you have done?

October 15th, 2009 at 09:54 pm

My daughter need jeans desperately since it is rapidly getting cold around here. The last time we got jeans, I took her to the consignment shop down the street that has really nice stuff. They are very picky about what they accept. The other option is to use the credit card that I have been trying to pay off, which has about $70 available on it, to get her two pair of jeans. What would you do?

I borrowed the money from my mom to get her some jeans at the consignment store. I could have used the CC but would have spent more for the same jeans. I am not discplined enough to pay it off next week when I get paid, but I will pay my mom back. So i think I made the wise decision, although I hate borrowing money!

I think in your situation...do anything to avoid charging on a credit card when you know you won't be able to pay it back.

I agree, I would not use the credit cards for anything.

Excellant choice. Along with the repayment to you mom, drop the money in a thank you card and write her a little note from the heart. God bless.

You have done a great job so far this year. Think of where you were last year and how far you have come. Now think of where you want to be, really try to visualize it. No every time you make a purchasing decision just take a quick moment to think how that might effect what you really want. The truth is that we all have wants pulling at us every day, the trick is how to overcome them.

Good luck and it gets easier with time.

THanks merch! But I don't really feel like I have made any progress! I still don't have any money in my savings account(have to take it out each week)...still don't have money in the kids savings(have to take it out each week) and I am still struggling paycheck to paycheck. Yes most of the bills are on time now...but I wish I was further in my journey!

    Great wisdom Merch!!

Having on time bills is HUGE! That is progress. Really.

Just remember it is a journey. Keep moving forward. Keep making good decisions on the journey and you'll get where you want to be.

    You have made great strides.

Maybe you are forgetting to set aside money for things before they come up? They WILL come up, it's the nature of life, most of these expenses can just seem to slip our mind until BLIP it's time to pay the piper.
