Completely frustrated

August 10th, 2012 at 02:06 pm

My weigh in was just kind of so-so. I gained .2 pounds. I know that isn't alot but it frustrates me that I didn't lose any weight. I have totally watched everything I eat. I am tracking everything I eat and staying well within my points allowance and I haven't eaten out once in the last two weeks. I just don't get it. This is the type of stuff that makes me give up.

I made it the two weeks for the Not Eating Out Challenge. It feels good to have accomplished this. How did everyone else do?

Yesterday was almost a NSD. I spent $3 at the gas station for two sodas.

No Eating Out: 9/9 (14/14 total)
Tracking Food: NO 8/9
NSD: No 2/9

I have been frustrated by calorie-counting diets, too. I do better cutting out starches and sugar.

Our bodies are funky that way. You are probably gaining muscle and may have a little extra water in you. Dont rely too much on the scale. Rather, focus on how good you feel!

Congrats on 14 days of eating home cooked food!! Do you think you could make it another week? Or two? It's good for your wallet if you do.

Don't give up on your diet. Try to just push thourgh this plateau you are at. You will be glad later.

Don't give up! Even if you didn't make weight progress, eating at home is way healthier, as is not overeating, so you're still doing your body a favor. Occasional unexplained plateaus happen, but you can't let it defeat you!

My leader indicated that a lot of people are showing gains (even small gains) due to the extreme heat this summer - drink your H20 and keep doing what you are doing and know that it will eventually break Smile I too was frustrated but now have shown a loss 2 weeks in a row.

I took a look at my food diary, figured that the lower the carb count (fewer carb things I ate), the more likely I would lose .... and did a little modeling. Right now, my weight is the addition of what I ate for the last 6 days. Its my own personal point system, but I count the number of "carb dings" in 6 days. Under 15 dings, I lose. 15 - 16 dings, I hold. Over 17 dings, I gain.

For somebody who has "suffered" through many plateaus on my way to losing 40+lbs, push on. What helped me is knowing that a plateau is a "win"...you aren't gaining, after all. Also remember that its inches that are visible, not the weight. Your weight isn't broadcast on your forehead after all!

Hello I just want to say that I really admire your strength and enjoy reading your blogs. I find myself in situations much like yourself. Your strength and positivity really shines through all the issues that arise in your world.

I know how frustrating it can be when you're exercising and eating right and the scale just isn't showing it. When that happens you have two choices, keep on doing what you've been doing and not let yourself be discouraged, or give up and go back to old habits that aren't going to help you progress.

Right now my scale is moving *very* slowly. I'm not doing my sweets binges and am eating much, much more healthfully. Plus I'm getting in *a lot* more exercise than I would have 4 months ago. I do sometimes wonder if it's worth it .. worth getting up super early on a summer morning to run 45 minutes ... worth skipping out on the chocolate I'm craving ... especially when I see that same number, or that same number range show up day after day after day.

What keeps me going is knowing that even though the loss is happening excruciatingly slowly, the overall trend IS loss, and that I'm redeveloping the healthy habits I need to make this loss LONG TERM this time. The harder I(you) have to work for a goal, the more likely I(you) are to cherish that success and want to maintain it.

I am a firm believer in the idea that it isn't the calories that count, it's what they are made of and their nutritional value. I have lost weight best on a diet that is two meals a day of low carb vegetables and protein, and one meal a day that is the same, but I add a higher carb or two (and it's only sugary about once or twice a week, is usually fruit or potato). I seldom eat snacks because I feel full on this type of diet. Also, the soda can be a major culprit in not losing weight. It is one of the hardest things to give up, but so worth it. I drink maybe one a week and it's the sugar kind, not the high fructose corn syrup kind. It makes a big difference.

Just wanted to say you're doing great!

What all have said is true - you're establishing a new way to do things, so patience is key. And what the scale shows at any single moment isn't necessarily a reflection of how well you're doing (and is quite often showcasing the sodium in your last meal.)

I know for me, I'll have a "perfect" week of following the plan, tracking, exercising, etc, and then have a .2 gain such as yours. And just as easily, I'll have weeks where I might have even gone over the weeklies or didn't have much activity, and then I lost - not complaining, but puzzling to be sure.

I do know that tracking, making better food choices and getting in some activity are what works, and watching the trend over time and having patience with yourself all help (the mental part of this journey is often the hardest!)

btw - it looks like you might have the monthly pass, if so, have you accessed the etools message boards for inspiration? I go there often - like daily - when my motivation flags Smile
Sorry for long reply - I know how evil those .2s are.... but I just you'll have another great week and it'll show up eventually!!
