No Spend Days & Icebox

July 31st, 2018 at 09:45 am

I have been doing a no spend challenge where I don't spend any money for 4 days and then have 2 days to spend for things I need. That has been working well for me and has stopped me from spending on things I don't need. I did have to spend yesterday that wasn't expected. I had to go to the Dr for a sinus infection. But due to my no spend challenges, I had to cash to pay for the visit and the prescription. I still have one more day before I can go to the grocery store.

I found this really cool Chrome extension called Icebox. It works with online retailers, like Amazon. Instead of letting me buy something instantly, it puts the purchase on ice for the time period you establish. I have mine set up for 24 hours. So whenever I try to buy something, I have to wait 24 hours before I can actually buy it. I have been using it a little over 2 weeks and it has saved me quite a bit of money. It has stopped my impulse shopping on Amazon.

That's a neat extension, I can see how that could be very helpful to impulse purchases. I put stuff in my Amazon cart often...I have something that has been in there for three years! I can't quite pull the trigger. Smile

Oh, funny. When I saw the title of your post, I just had to read it, because I don't know anyone these days who still uses the word "icebox." Though my grandmother did, becus before the refrigerator was invented, they had to rely on an iceman who came around every day with the ice....crazy! My father remembers this. Sometimes I think it was ordinary inventions like the fridge/freezer that really transformed lives.

PatientSaver...I have an old Icebox that was my grandmothers. It has been in my family for years! Of course it is used more for storage now than anything else!

Funny, I just came across an old budget book at my mom's house from 1918 that had a budget category for ice for your icebox!

That extension looks interesting; I hope they come out with a Firefox version eventually.
