Someone Got a Bonus, Just Not Me

December 31st, 2014 at 01:38 am

Yep...one of the other employees got a pretty substantial bonus. The only reason I know is as the accounting manager I cut the check. But no one else got a bonus. It really angered me yesterday to the point of tears. This particular employee has only been there since May, is late every day, leaves for 1 1/2 hour every day in addition to lunch to pick up dd at school and used all her sick days in the first 5 months she was there. I just don't understand it. We all worked hard to make the year a success and to single out one person seems so unfair. It would have been nice, but I will survive without it. The only thing I can't figure out is how to get DD's senior pictures. But I will figure it out.

I'm so sorry! That has to be disappointing to know that information and have it feel hurtful. Our school has photography students who will take basic senior photos for free. Do you know if your daughter's school does, or would be willing to for a low price.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear this, NGG. It does seem very unfair.

Personally, I think face time means nothing. Perhaps that particular employee had made a major contribution to the company that calls for a bonus during a time when no one else get one.

Maybe the bonus was built into their offer letter so the company couldn't back out of it in their case.

I'm with Butterscotch. I know someone who got a signing bonus at the 6 month point just because the HR person was on vacation when the offer was made and there was no chance of negotiating the starting salary.

I'm sorry about the bonus situation. That sounds frustrating. With regards to senior pictures, our school made all of the kids go to Provide Studios and take pics in cab and gown. So, if you wanted those pictures you had to get them thru Provine. I sat on it all year round and at the end of the year and they would send out emails saying the prices have dropped 40% and so on. I finally snagged just two of those pictures. They really didn't do a good job and I didn't to pay for the expensive package deal. I've offered up my daughters cap and gown on the neighborhood FB page if someone would like to use it to go and get pictures taken. Other than that you really have to wait until after they graduation to get the cap and gown pics. Ofcourse there is always the senior pics of kids at the park or by rail road tracks, etc in normal clothes and not cap and gown. When I did those pics my sister paid for them as a gift and I also got a groupon deal for $19.00. Aren't you getting child support? Best of luck!

    That's unfair and I don't get it.

It certainly sounds like the bonus was negotiated at the time of hire. Especially since no one else received one. Don't take it personally or let it affect your job performance or attitude. I know it's difficult, but let it go and continue to do a fabulous job at work.
