Wednesday Update

August 24th, 2011 at 06:30 pm

I contacted the renters and they should have the rest of the money for me today. I also asked when they will be able to start making payments on the June rent that is still due. She hasn't responded to that question. The good news is that if they give me what is still due for August and the power bill I will be able to make my mortgage payment actually on time, as opposed to 5 or 6 days late. I am excited about that. This will be my second mortgage payment this month in an attempt to get caught up.

I am going to my parents house tonight to make sure they get something to eat and get the dishes done. My niece spent all day there yesterday loading them up with easy things to eat. I will just go make sure they heated something up. My mom gets another round of Chemo next week so I don't see this ending anytime soon. At least she is finally getting some help with my dad. That must be a big relief to her.

I've been following your posts on your renters and as a renter myself I rent privately off of someone and can't imagine falling behind on rent, I would evict them and get it over with. It's not worth your trouble to have to fight for rent every month is it? I really hope things work out for the best.

Your renters sound like the type of "I'm the victim" people who think the rules don't apply to them when it is inconvenient- make sure you are documenting EVERYTHING for court since you will probably either have to sue for the balance due at some point or they will try to pull some wrongful eviction crap when you finally do start proceedings- a receipt log of what rent was paid and what is still due with dated payment entries and deadlines in it, signed by both you and one of them next to each transaction. Good luck!

It's nice to see your family pitching in to take care of your parents. So often that burden falls on one person (usually a daughter) when it needs to be spread amongst everyone who can possibly help.

I know you don't want to start eviction proceedings, but you are letting them take advantage of the situation.
