Day 11

July 8th, 2011 at 02:09 pm

Yep that is right. Today is day 11 since I have had any fast food that I paid for. I have had two free meals in that time period. We went out to dinner last night for DD's birthday but my son paid. I paid for desserts since he was already looking at a $60 bill. I don't consider that breaking my challenge as it isn't fast food and it wasn't for a meal. It was for a treat.

Dinner for tonight is already cooked as I put a roast in the crock pot yesterday forgetting that we were going out for dinner. Just need to add some vegetables and some rolls and it is done.

The weekend is always the hardest for me to resist eating out. We should have plenty of food to prevent it, just takes time to cook.

DD is going rafting tomorrow for her birthday. So far she has 4 people going. She should have fun. I hope that the 4 people show up. She has a problem with people cancelling at the last minute. I feel so bad for her sometimes. She hasn't found that one true friend that she can always count on yet. I didn't find that friend until I was in my thirties. I hope it doesn't take her that long. Anyway, I already have the money saved for the trip and I should actually have some extra.

I ate out last night after picking up my sister from the airport. By the time we picked her up, it was already 8'clock and we had been going since both my mom and I got off work. So, my son already had asked that I bring home Burger King. My son is 13 now and his appetite is good somedays, and not so good on others, because he takes ADHD meds that cause him no sense of hunger. Anyway, we ordered 3 meal deals, and two additional sandwiches......$27 later!!!! It's no wonder I can't pay my bills, i know I had food at home, I could of easily used the $20 of my money to pay one of the bills that I owe for lab charges from a doctor exam or another little payment toward a bigger bill, like my phone, right?
The entire ride to the airport with my mom I was venting and crying about my entire life. I'm behind one rent payment, need to pay the chapter 13 trustee $500 by July 22, and I need food, gas, medicine, pet food (cat & dog) pay my phone bill, internet bill, the list goes on and on. So, I said to my mom, I have food at home and my son can eat what I make, because this is exactly how that small $20 spend unwisely puts me in the same financial stupor.
She insisted I get my son what he asked for because he's her only grandson and she's always been nuts about him. So, North Georgia Girl, I think if I could identify what steps I am taking every time I get money in my bank account and how I psychologically view my money and spending, I might be able to turn my thinking into a smart person's financial mind. Sounds like you are doing really good!

GB...I probably would have eaten out in that situation as well. the goal is to do the right more times than not, not that I completely stop eating out, at least for me that is. You are making conscience decisions and that is the first step to making better decisions.

Congrats! You are making great strides in eating at home more.

Way to go on the controlling the eating out...it helps when you have stuff ready in the fridge, like your pot roast...if I can, I try to fix things we can have more than one meal from such as a pot roast one night and then use the leftover meat and broth and put with noodles for beef and noodles the next night.

I'm happy with a sandwich any time. Even PB&J makes me happy. But cheese is my favorite. Sandwiches are so fast. After I have the sandwich, I might have energy to chop and cook some vegetables. Or to microwave some veggies from the freezer. I guess its different if you also need to feed kids, though.
