Wednesday November 12

November 12th, 2008 at 02:06 pm

I didn't do too good today. I resorted to dinner out as it was just my son and I. I felt bad after I had done it, but it was so convenient to have dinner when I got home. The total for the day was not bad, but could have been alot better.

I have decided that I am going to allow myself to purchase breakfast each morning, roughly $4/day. I went ahead and bought my bagel for tomorrow morning since I was in the store this afternoon.

Breakfast 3.57
Dinner(son) 7.36
Dinner(me) 6.07
breakfast for tomorrow 2.13

Total for today 19.13

So you are going to allow yourself to spend $120 a month on breakfast?

You sound frustrated and I can relate! I work nights and am so tired sometimes that making supper feels like climbing a mountain. But, that's where having my kitchen organized helps A LOT. I cut up veggies during the weekend or days off and put them in ziploc bags in the fridge so it's easy to add like fresh onions to dishes. I keep a lot of soups on hand (EASY and not horrible for you)and eggs, cereal and toast are frequently dinner for us. It will be ok. Take it one step at a time. If you have to buy breakfast for awhile that is ok. Work on one thing at a time.

At 3.50/day, it is $17.50/week. It is roughly $80/month for breakfast. And if that is all the money I spend eating out, than I will be happy with myself.

I know that if I could get better organized, it would help alot. I have lots of canned veggies and other staples in the pantry. I have never been one who enjoys cooking or has that gift to mix things and end up with a perfect meal. But I think that if I can decide the night before what we are having for dinner and set it out, it would take alot of that stress away. Tonight for instance, is a late night(cheerleading) and we won't get home until 8:45. i know that we will probably be having chicken(bought alot from a fundraiser that was a good price, already breaded-just requires heating) but I don't know what we will have with it. but if I had thought about it last night and set it out, I wouldn't have to think about it today! Don't know why I haven't thought of that before!

Also need to see about having some sort of snack in the car to munch...usually end up stopping at gas station for snacks to get through until dinner. Any suggestion of items that will keep in the car?

I am not counting the Weekends for breakfast...as I don't leave the house early, I will eat at home.

You can buy a package of 6 bagels in the freezer section for $1.79. Have you tried those???
