Checking Account Bonus Questions

August 21st, 2013 at 08:49 pm

Right now Regions Bank and PNC bank are both offering bonuses for opening up checking accounts with direct deposit. This is doable for me and I have figured out how I could do both. My question is does this affect anything? Not that my credit is great, but does it affect my ability to open checking accounts if I open multiple ones at a time? Or will it put my name on some sort of a watch list?

Those interested...PNC is $200 and Regions is $125.

I don't know of any watch list. They might run a credit check, but I don't know that it would disqualify you from getting either account. I would open the one you want the most first, probably PNC, and then go for the second if that works out.

Those would be great bonuses for you. Hope it works!!

Does either account charge a monthly fee? Is there a minimum amount of time you must keep the account open to "earn" the bonus? (Sometimes, the fine print says if you don't keep it open for a certain length of time, you forfeit the bonus upon account closure).

Just make sure you know about all the "gotchas". Smile

With bank accounts, they usually run you through Chexsystems. It doesn't actually pull your credit, but it does look for reported chargeoffs, overdraft abuse, etc. I think some banks have started pulling credit, but most are just looking for account abuse history.

And like Petunia said...be sure to see what the rules are. I know with Chase I had to have the account open for certain amount of days and the deposit a certain time period.

They both want direct deposit. I know that my payroll would be able to split them, but maintaining them both might not be worth the complexity. I don't think it will affect your credit but juggling the two together means you have to be alert all the time.
