Planning A New York Trip & Fiscal Fast

October 24th, 2012 at 07:51 pm

For my DD 16th birthday she wants to go to New York. So I have begun to plan this trip for next July. I should be able to save enough for it. We will drive to my sister's house outside of DC and then take the train/bus to New York. We will be there two days, so only one night in a hotel. She is looking into what things she wants to do while there. I want to go to the WTC memorial but other than that I am open to whatever she wants to do. I am looking forward to spending the time with her.

I am going to try to do a fiscal fast next week. No spending what so ever. We will have to get by with whatever we have. It might be difficult with DD because she doesn't plan ahead and might need something like hair bows. We will see how it works out.

Sounds like a fun trip...what amount do you need to save? How can you break that down by month to save that money? Can you find small amounts of money to set aside for this? I'd love to hear your plan...maybe you need a ticker for that, too! Click on my sidebar to get to the website.

New York is such a great place! It is however, a very expensive place. Don't underestimate the cost.

Sounds like a great trip. This might be a great way to show DD how saving money can let you afford cool trips like this and planning ahead helps save money.

We took a trip to NYC last summer with a church group on a touring bus. Meals weren't unreasonable, but of course we didn't eat at the Four Seasons or any place like that. Planning ahead and breaking it down monthy by month like CCR said is a fabulous idea.

That sounds like a fun way to celebrate her 16th. Maybe when she asks for things like hairbows, ask her if she'd rather have the hairbows or the money put towards the trip (unless it really is something *very* necessary.)
