Cold Spell

October 19th, 2011 at 08:37 pm

Well the cold hit the south today. The high temp is only 55 and it is only 47 right now. That is cold for this time of the year. Makes me wonder what kind of winter we are going to have. Definately will have to make sure the heat is on before I go to bed. Don't want to wake up to a freezing house.

I have spent the last couple of days helping my son get his college applications in. We have an appointment for Monday to have a counselor help us fill out the FAFSA form. there is no charge for this and I can't seem to get to the right website. So I am going to let her do it. I don't know what kind of financial aid he will receive, I look really good on paper. But unfortunately I am not doing that great. He will probably have to take out some student loans.

The budget isn't looking too good for the next couple of weeks. Not sure what I am going to do. I think I am finally to the point of telling the renters that they have to move out. They either are not working or not taking me serious about giving me more money. I am not sure which it is but I am to the point of not caring. I hate that I have let myself get into this position. I just hate confrontation. And I am scared how they will leave the house.

Make sure your son fills out applications for every scholarship he qualifies for. That kind of money can make a significant difference. When I went to college over 20 years ago, the local Kiwanis Club gave me a small scholarship. Because of that, I was able to get a Matching Award from my college.

If the renters are not paying their rent, then they are no longer renters... they are freeloaders, and it is time for them to find another home. This is not fair to you, and it leads to additional stress that you do not need. On the financial aid side, I agree with the above. Apply for everything you can think of so that you can have some insurance of avoiding loans if at all possible! I wish you good luck.
