Day 9 of No Eating Out

July 6th, 2011 at 04:07 pm

I can't believe how long I have gone without eating out. It is really quite impressive for me. We did go to Mexican last night but my DD paid. She was craving it and I told her she had to pay if we went. The money was burning a hole in her pocket. Maybe now she is done for a while.

I forgot to take anything out for dinner so we will probably have a meal in a box...you know the complete meals they sell. All you have to do is mix all the ingredients together. I should get in the habit of taking something out for dinner the night before. Definately something to work on.

Great job not spending on eating out!

Not sure what you have frozen that you needed for dinner, but I have defrosted hamburger in the microwave before cooking. I use a defrost setting to get it thawed most of the way. Then I can brown the hamburger on the stove top after that.

good going on cost avoidance of eating out. Don't lose the momentum now. Why not make something salad based like shrimp from the can or pasta based with a made from scratch sauce. Fling open the pantry door and see what's on hand. www.cooks.com will give directions/choices. Canned tuna is very inexpensive and flexible. If you have chicken or beef patties in the freezer, they are baked or grilled frozen.

    Great progress in your goal!!

And I agree with creditcardfree - I'm the queen of defrosting in the microwave (...and then I try to do better :-) I never let a little bit of frozen get in the way of eating at home.

Here's to staying strong in our battle of eating in!!

Awesome! Mexican is super easy to make at home even if you don't have time to cook from scratch, what with all the premixed spice blends, shredded cheese & lettuce, canned refried beans, quick-cooking rice, salsas, dinner kits, etc. Most of the staples of Mexican food are nonperishable or have a long refrigerator life, too, so you could keep them on hand for when cravings arise.
